Looking for a job? Get busy on Twitter and LinkedIn but skip the job ads

US recruitment consultancy Challenger, Gray and Christmas (great name) did a survey on the most effective way of getting a job among HR managers. Bottom came the old school methods of classified ads – classifieds having once been the lifeblood of regional papers – and turning up at a job fair.
Top? Old fashioned networking followed by the new kind of networking, having a social media presence. As I said in a previous post, a good online footprint makes a world of difference – and this comes as I’ve just made my first Twitter hire.
But job ads? We’ve used them but I have to think back several years to the last time we’ve actually hired someone from one.
