You’ve got to admire their brass neck
…and their ability to turn a huge crisis into a potential opportunity.
Booked a ticket for one of the 50 Michael Jackson concerts at London’s 02 (formerly ‘The Dome’)? Obviously you don’t really want your money back, what you actually want is the ability to have your ticket as a souvenir keep-sake.
The owners of the 02, AEG, are offering fans these £50-£75 ($80-$125) tickets in lieu of a refund, claiming that they feature “special images which give them a 3D moving effect” (source BBC News Online).
This wheeze doesn’t have anything to do with the £300 million insurance liability AEG is now facing, does it?

I think that's a great idea Kimberley, unfortunately in this case it's AEG which has a handle on the ticket sales and is probably aghast at the prospect of what should have been a huge money spinner turning out to be a big financial black hole!
And indeed it is Kate, what struck me was a) how mainstream media outlets have largely played this story straight , and b) whether AEG will actually get away with it and turn a small profit
I mean, you wonder whether there are MJ fans now thinking that they've got their hands on a piece of paper that will be worth a lot more than the retail ticket price if sold on ebay…the problem with that of course is that the tickets aren't a rarity, 800k of the things were printed
I think MJ's people should set up a charity and people can decide whether they want a refund or for the money to go to the charity in Jackson's memory.
a new definition of opportunism!
