An end to Twitter brand-jacking?
From Mashable (via David Armano), Twitter is to launch verified accounts. According to the Twitter blog, “The experiment will begin with public officials, public agencies, famous artists, athletes, and other well known individuals at risk of impersonation.”
However Mashable says it will start with businesses and verification will depend on official websites linking back to their twitter feed.
So an end to Twitter brand jacking? Maybe, but not an end to social media brand jacking. For example, take a look at the fairly random Starbucks Coffee ID on the photo sharing site Flickr. And be sure to claim your domain names by checking them via usernamez.com.
